Abstract

The current research aimed to identify the dimensions of participation motives among college team players in some team sports at the University of Mosul Championship. The researchers used the descriptive survey method to suit the nature of the research, with a sample size of 60 players, including 18 players for the football event, 22 players for the volleyball event, and 20 players for the basketball event. The researchers adopted the participation motives scale prepared by Dweikat (2004), which consists of 30 items, and its validity and reliability were verified. For statistical data analysis, the researchers used the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, percentage, and hypothetical mean. The main results reached by the researchers are:

1. The existence of participation motives in general among college team players in the University of Mosul Championship.

2. Team sports activities are considered important for university students as they participate for various reasons and motives, the most important of which are: team work motives, love for team spirit, love for winning, physical fitness, skill improvement, reaching the highest levels, love for challenge, and competition, which were deemed very significant. In light of the research results, the researchers recommended the following:

1. Directing more attention to the motives of college students and recognizing them by sports supervisors and coaches.

2. The necessity of paying attention to the psychological and personal aspects of the student that could increase their motives for participation. The researchers also suggested the following:

1. The necessity of conducting similar studies on individual game players in the college.
2. The necessity of comparing the motivations between team game players and individual game players.
